Title Product Developer
Department Commercial
Purpose of Role To work with the team to deliver product development within selected UK / EU customers
Reporting to NPD manager
Based Pitsford (UK) and working from home – plus international travel as required
Salary £26k – £28k
Experience 2 years minimum experience
Skills 1. Product development or technical management experience working with / for major UK or EU Retailers

  • Key to the role is the experience of working within the grocery retail supply chain

2. Language

  • a. Fluent Business English
  • b. French, Italian & / or German would be of advantage

3. Food Industry Experience is critical.

  • Chilled food experience is preferred (but not critical) – and produce development would be an advantage

4. Attention to detail

  • a. Attention to detail is crucial for this role.

5. Microsoft software experience

  • a. Ability to work with Microsoft Teams, Excel, Word, Outlook and PowerPoint in particular
  • b. Good Excel skills will be highly desirable

6. Ability to work independently

  • Whilst part of a development team it will be key that the applicant can work independently and is highly self-motivated to meet deadlines and a high quality of work

7. Able to communicate very effectively across countries and time zones

  • a. A key attribute will be to work effectively across multiple cultures, working with many who have English as a second language

8. Comfortable when presenting to groups large and small

  • a. Presentation skills that can effortlessly switch between informal and highly formal settings.
Responsibilities 1. Direct responsibility for delivering new product development for selected retailers

  • a. Accountable for on time development & launch of products
    • i. Setting up and managing the critical path process for each product launch
    • ii. Managing customer artwork development and sign-off
    • iii. Work with the commercial managers and cost accountant to develop accurate product costings
  • b. Make recommendations for product and packaging changes.
  • c. Keep abreast of competitor developments and launches.
  • d. Arrange samples for relevant retailer meetings.
  • e. Build & maintain strong relationships with retailer teams.

2. Point of contact for all BS sites with regard to product development queries regarding the retailers they are responsible for

3. Manage internal stakeholders throughout the development process.

  • a. Working effectively with every department and production site throughout the development process
  • b. Acting as the voice of the consumer and customer within the business

4. Awareness of food and consumer trends across both the EU and a global basis.

  • a. The ability to communicate developments and trends to the wider business
  • b. Champion the innovation development of the business
